Dynotile Installation

Dynotile products do not require a professional to fit them as installation is very straightforward. Simply align the pegs, loops and any Overlock joints, tap them together firmly and you're onto the next tile. No glue, no adhesive. Just snap and go then in a matter of hours you'll have a great looking, customized design to complete the makeover of your garage floor.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Before beginning your installation of Dynotile it is advisable to ensure you are equipped with the following basic equipment:

  • Eye Protection
  • Rubber Mallet
  • Knee Pads
  • Tape Measure
  • Hand or Jig Saw

SITE PREPARATION

Dynotile is meant to be installed on a clean, flat and solid surface. Sweep the floor to remove any stones or other debris before you begin. In some instances it may be necessary to patch or fill holes in the substrate and grind down any significant protrusions that may interfere with installing Dynotile on a flat surface. Some rough finished concrete floors may benefit from being treated with a self levelling compound or similar prior to fitting Dynotile.

Note 1: When fitting standard Dynotiles over hard surfaces a useful accessory is the featherfoam acoustic underlay which is laid loose underneath to eliminate any potential tile tapping noise which can occur as a result of slight differences in the floor level. It also helps improve the cushioned feel and thermal insulation of the floor covering.

Note 2: It is important to leave a gap of approx. 13mm between the edge of the tile floor and the walls to accommodate thermal expansion of the tile. If required, after fitting the floor this gap can be filled with a flexible mastic or covered up using the Dynotile skirting. A similar gap should be left around any columns, buttresses or permanent fixtures which the floor goes around.


STEP 1
Having calculated the correct quantity of tiles required and planned your design, next identify the female loop edges before proceeding. Dynotile has two different types of edges per tile, a flat edge with male pegs and a female loop edge. When installing Dynotile be sure to have the female loop edges all facing the same direction.

Remember to also wear eye protection when cutting or installing Dynotile.



STEP 2
Start in one corner of the room and place the first tile to begin with. Align the tile so that one flat edge goes across the front of the garage opening, just inside the door track and the other flat edge follows the adjacent wall.

STEP 3
Position the tiles so that the pegs of the second tile match up with the loops of the first one. Holding the second tile at a slight angle and bending it slightly enables Dynotile's Overlock edges to locate. Next apply firm pressure downward to clip the pegs of the second tile into loops of the first one - a rubber mallet is recommended for this step.

Proceed to lock tiles into place along the two adjacent perimeter edges of the room. Ensure the tiles run parallel with the door opening.


STEP 4
Continue locking the Dynotiles in place, adding rows to the floor and remembering to keep working in the same direction. When the tiles in the second row are being fitted it will be necessary to lift a few tiles slightly to achieve the angle that enables the Overlock joint to locate.

The last tile on each row may need cutting to fit the width of the floor - this is simply done using hand or jig saws, with fine tooth blades suitable for cutting metal producing the best results.





STEP 5
Continue as above until the main floor area is complete. Install ramped or universal edges and corner pieces on tiles located in any transitional areas such as:
  • Leading edge of garage (where main garage door is located).
  • Doorways and entrances that are flush with garage floor.
  • Around columns, abutments or inspection pits

HELPFUL TIPS
  • Dynotile tiles and edge pieces may be cut with a straight edge saw where a complete tile or piece may not fit evenly.
  • Do your entire trimming at the hottest part of the day and with nothing on top of the floor.
  • Never try to glue down or fasten the floor, it is designed to expand and contract.
  • When bringing everything back into your newly surfaced area, do so at the hottest part of the day, when the floor is fully expanded.
  • It is not recommended to fit Dynotile floors when temperatures are below 5 degrees C.

MAINTAINENCE
Day-to-day maintenance is performed by sweeping with a soft broom and spot cleaning any stains or marks. Solvent-based solutions can usually be used to clean stubborn areas without harming the flooring though applying to a small test area first is advisable. Occasional mopping with a water and degreaser solution such as Dynotile Citrus Cleaner will also help to keep the floor looking its best. If necessary, to aid in separating the floor for removal, slide a broom handle under the floor at a joint, and slide it along the joint to separate the locks.
